Making the most of your family session- Golden Days Studio

Want to know how to make the most of your session & to be present in the moments that you’ll love looking back on? Read on..

Finding calm amongst the chaotic can be hard to do. I know as parents we can put so much pressure on ourselves to make sure our kids act as they usually do & behave at the photo shoot so we can update your family photos to cherish time after time.. and then they don’t.

Trust me, I get it. I have photographed hundreds of family’s, too many to count and this is a little of how it tends to go..

I’ll introduce myself to your little ones first, I want them to feel comfortable instantly and know that I’m here to have fun. Then I’ll get a chance to talk to you & we’ll walk to our location. The kids will sometimes be a bit shy & that is totally normal. In my guide I suggest showing your children a photo of me & explaining that I’ll be coming along to take some photos, no biggie.

We will start with a few photos of you all together so they know that this is absolutely ok & nothing to worry about. This is also when the polite smiles come out (don’t worry, the real ones emerge after a while 😝). From here we can start to seperate a little & capture photos of the kids together, then with each of you. After a while some children start to get a bit over it. This is when I take a step back & we let them wander. Pick flowers, look at bugs, talk about what they like and just let them have a rest, a drink or little snack. After a while they perk back up & we get back into playing eye spy, getting mum to twirl you or to see how far dad can throw you in the air! This is always a hit ☺️

The best thing you can do when your child is having a moment is to let them. By giving them space, a hug or holding their hand & walking away for a bit you’re showing them that the way they’re feeling matters & that is the most important thing of all 💛

Oh and here’s an extra tip: smile through it all.. even if you don’t feel like it x
